FAQ - Frequently asked questions
On this page we explain technical terms related to our products as clearly as possible
Professional and factual
At this point, we would like to take a closer look at the technical terms that appear in our product descriptions. We will expand this page in the future to improve communication with our customers and to create a common basis.
The ARS needle (ARS = AIR Release System) consists of a thin catheter containing a hollow needle. The whole thing is in a narrow container similar to a fountain pen. Unscrewing the cap makes the needle accessible.
Decompression of the chest cavity is essential as a life-saving measure in the event of a tension pneumothorax. The trained paramedic inserts a combination of catheter and hollow needle (the ARS needle) into the upper chest cavity. The air that has entered can escape through the channel created in this way and collapse of the lungs and circulatory shock are prevented. After the air has escaped, the hollow needle is removed while the catheter remains in the injured person’s chest.
This buys the injured person valuable time.

A chest seal is used in emergency situations in the event of an injury to the chest cavity, lung injury or pneumothorax.
A pneumothorax occurs when air enters the space between the lungs and the chest wall and increases the pressure on the lungs. This can lead to breathing difficulties and life-threatening conditions. The Chest Seal is a special dressing that is applied to the wound to prevent air from entering the chest cavity and to reduce pressure on the lungs or prevent a tension pneumothorax.
The Chest Seal consists of an adhesive film that is airtight and waterproof. It is applied directly to the wound and forms a barrier that prevents air from entering the chest. This reduces the pressure on the lungs and makes breathing easier.
The application of a chest seal requires specialist knowledge and should be carried out by trained medical personnel or first aiders. It is important to follow the instructions carefully to achieve the best possible effect.
The chest seal is a crucial tool in emergency medicine and can save lives. It is therefore advisable to familiarize yourself with its use and to have it to hand in a first aid kit.
Chitosan is the active ingredient in Axiostat bleed stoppers. This is a biopolymer obtained by depolymerizing natural chitin. Chitosan is both biocompatible and biodegradable. It has the ability to stop bleeding quickly by combining with the blood to form a gel-like substance that seals the wound.
Axiostat is mainly used for severe bleeding, for example in the case of injuries caused by accidents or in emergency medicine. It is easy to use and can be applied by trained medical personnel or first aiders.
To use Axiostat correctly, the instructions should be followed carefully. The product is applied directly to the bleeding area and pressed lightly to stop the flow of blood. It should be left there until medical help arrives.
Axiostat is an effective instrument for stopping bleeding and can save lives. It is therefore advisable to familiarize yourself with its use and to have it to hand in a first aid kit.
IFAK stands for “Individual First Aid Kit” and refers to a set of medical aids worn by individuals to provide first aid in emergencies. The IFAK is an essential piece of medical equipment for military personnel, police officers, paramedics and other first responders.
The IFAK contains a variety of medical supplies and tools needed to treat injuries and life-threatening conditions. These include sterile dressings, tourniquets, bandage scissors, nasopharyngeal tubes, respiratory masks, gloves, wound closure strips and much more. These items are carefully selected to enable fast and effective first aid and to carry out potentially life-saving measures until professional medical help arrives.
An example of the importance of an IFAK is its use in the military sector. Soldiers are often in dangerous situations and can quickly suffer injuries. The IFAK set enables them to help themselves or their comrades in such situations by stopping bleeding, treating wounds and keeping airways clear. This can make the difference between life and death, especially if medical help is not immediately available.
Another example is the use of IFAKs in police operations. Police officers can often be the first on the scene and must be able to treat injuries until paramedics arrive. The IFAK enables them to respond quickly and effectively to gunshot wounds, stab wounds or other traumatic injuries and ensure the survival of those affected.

The Israeli Bandage is a special type of bandage designed to control bleeding quickly and effectively. It consists of an elastic bandage and a pressure device that allows the bandage to be wrapped tightly around the wound and pressure to be applied.
The bandage is mainly used for severe bleeding, for example in the event of injuries caused by accidents or in war situations. It is easy to use and can be applied by first aiders or medical staff.
To use the IsraeliBandage correctly, the instructions should be followed carefully. The bandage should be applied firmly, but not too tightly, in order to stop the blood flow without impairing the circulation of the extremity.
The IsraeliBandage is an important tool in emergency medicine and can save lives. It is therefore advisable to familiarize yourself with their use and to have them to hand in a first aid kit.
Pneumothorax is the penetration of air into the space between the lungs and the chest cavity (pleural space). This process normally stops on its own at some point. This is not the case with a tension pneumothorax. In this case, a corresponding injury (stab or gunshot wound) causes air to enter the chest cavity with every breath. The affected lung collapses and the pressure in the chest rises. This also reduces the amount of blood that flows from the body back into the heart. The heart can no longer pump enough blood into the body and a circulatory shock occurs.
A tension pneumothorax is always life-threatening.
First aid can be a chest seal and/or a puncture using an ARS needle. The application of such measures requires appropriate training.
A tourniquet is a medical device used to stop bleeding. It consists of a flexible band or cuff that is wrapped around an extremity and tightened to stop the flow of blood. It is mainly used in emergency situations to control life-threatening bleeding, especially in the event of serious injuries or accidents.
However, the use of a tourniquet requires specialist knowledge and should only be carried out by trained medical personnel or first aiders. It is important to apply the tourniquet correctly to avoid damage to nerves or tissue.
In engineering, the tourniquet is also used in other areas, such as aviation or mechanical engineering. Here it is used to control the flow of liquids or gases by acting as a valve or shut-off device.
Overall, the tourniquet is an important technical aid that can save lives. It is crucial that we are aware of how to use it correctly in order to be able to act effectively in emergency situations.
